Modern Day Slavery in Oklahoma: OBA Members Take Action

Program Description: Human Trafficking is present in Oklahoma and the victims face numerous legal needs. Most of us think that human trafficking happens in far away places - the truth is that Oklahoma is a prime state for modern day slavery recruitment. Last year, the OBA joined the fight against human trafficking by starting a task force to compliment the state’s efforts.

This seminar builds on the first seminar we held in Oklahoma City and a follow-up on a seminar held at TU last fall. It will give you a better understanding of the issues you may encounter and how as a lawyer you can represent the victims of human trafficking in their criminal, labor and employment, contracts, family, immigration and other areas of law. Experts will provide valuable information on how to recognize human trafficking and how you can assist child victims and adult victims of sex and labor trafficking within a variety of legal contexts.

Its As If It Never Happened...Or Is It? Expunging Your Adult Clients Criminal Records

Under Oklahoma law there are two types of expungements available to adults that have had contact with the criminal justice system.  The procedure that must be followed to obtain each of them is different, as is the relief they respectively give.  This simple fact provides numerous potential pitfalls for attorneys representing individuals seeking and expungement of their criminal history record.  Once you become familiar with the differences between the two expungements, you will be able to efficiently and effectively serve your clients in this area.

This seminar focuses on identifying and eliminating the common sources of ambiguity in legal documents that can lead to disputes and even litigation. Experienced corporate and transactional lawyers will undoubtedly recognize some of the common language we untangle in this seminar. Lenne’ Edison Espenschied, a highly regarded national presenter and author of Contract Drafting: Powerful Prose in Transactional Practice (ABA Fundamentals, 2010) and The Grammar and Writing Handbook for Lawyers, will condense hazy theories of drafting into concise, clear, practical techniques that can be applied immediately to improve the clarity and overall quality of all your legal documents.
