Modern Day Slavery in Oklahoma: OBA Members Take Action

Program Description: Human Trafficking is present in Oklahoma and the victims face numerous legal needs. Most of us think that human trafficking happens in far away places - the truth is that Oklahoma is a prime state for modern day slavery recruitment. Last year, the OBA joined the fight against human trafficking by starting a task force to compliment the state’s efforts.

This seminar builds on the first seminar we held in Oklahoma City and a follow-up on a seminar held at TU last fall. It will give you a better understanding of the issues you may encounter and how as a lawyer you can represent the victims of human trafficking in their criminal, labor and employment, contracts, family, immigration and other areas of law. Experts will provide valuable information on how to recognize human trafficking and how you can assist child victims and adult victims of sex and labor trafficking within a variety of legal contexts.

Digital Forensics and Electronic Discovery Review

E-discovery helps inform the “what” of a given scenario and forensics can help identify the “how” and “when.” Forensics and e-discovery share a goal; to locate digital evidence to support investigations or fact discovery. E-discovery is content-based but digital forensics focuses more on context.  This presentation will discuss how forensics can tell the rest of the story through deleted information, authentication, and user activity. We also discuss some of the cool things forensics can do.

Course Summary:  This training session is intended to help attorneys and insurance adjusters understand how cold weather / freezing events affect common plumbing and fire protection systems. Common methods of building construction to prevent freezing are presented, as well as common mistakes in construction that cause failure.  Also discussed is the effect of freeze failures on different kinds of piping systems and plumbing components. Numerous examples of freezing failures will be presented.  Lastly, the course includes a substantial hands-on demonstration of freezing effects on pipes and plumbing components. Students will observe as various components are allowed to freeze and will then be encouraged to predict and discuss the various failure mechanisms due to freezing.
